英语中的平行世界（进阶篇）

书接上文，昨天讲到了英语中的平行宇宙——平行结构，我们介绍了平行结构的基本方法，今天我们将对它进行进一步的深入，考研阅读里，出现过这样一句话：
Its scientists were the world’s best and its workers the most skilled.
它的科学家是世界上最优秀的，它的工人是最有技巧的。
大家有没有发现，这里出现了二者并列，但后一个并列句，并没有没有动词 were。
这就是今天的重点：为避免重复，并列结构中，共用的谓语动词可省略，这个规则在主语不同的情况下依旧适用。
例如下面的句子，依旧出自《培根随笔》：
Reading makes a full man; conference a ready man; and writing an exact man.
读书使人充实，讨论使人机智，笔记使人准确。
建议多读几次例句，最好背住一个你喜欢的句子。让这种现象在脑子里生根，未来才能发芽：
In the light of this statement, teachers live by selling knowledge, philosophers by selling wisdom and priests by selling spiritual comfort.
按这种说法，教师靠卖知识为生，哲学家靠卖智慧为生，牧师靠卖精神安慰为生。
